The British heavyweight repeated his controversial comments about wanting to “kill” his opponent during a press event in Florida on midweek.

These statements were originally stated on the previous day when Joshua was questioned if he would show restraint against Paul, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming bout against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has drawn criticism over the risk involved and the size difference between the two athletes.

Fury Labels Joshua a “Disgrace”

Ex- titleholder The Gypsy King labeled Joshua a “classless loser” for his extreme comments.

But Joshua, justified his stance: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I understand many people don't grasp it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. Whatever happens, happens - provided that my hand is held high, that's what's important, respectfully.”

He continued, “That's just the psychology we have to have as boxers. I'm unsure if other fighters think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a risky thing. Anything can happen.”

“You hope your opponent leaves the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It wasn't personal.”

Paul's Fiery Retort

Paul, a massive outsider in the fight as a career lighter fighter, was no less fiery in his retort.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” Paul declared. “I'm prepared. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face Paul, 28, at Florida's arena in a fight many regard as a glaring mismatch, with some suggesting it should have been approved as an exhibition bout.

The official fight will be fought over 8 3-minute stanzas using standard ten-ounce padded gloves, with a stipulated maximum weight for the former champion.

Joshua Says He Was “Brought In to Save” The Sport

Despite the graphic terminology used, the fighter claimed he has been “brought in to save” boxing.

“They want me to stop the Jake Paul show and I comprehend it and that's why I have to carry boxing on my back in this bout,” he added.

The news conference also had more humorous exchanges, with Joshua smiling as Paul sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed peacefully, with the underdog striking a bizarre pose before the champion stayed composed and playfully grabbed Paul's chain.

Both Fighters Deny Pre-Arranged Claims

The unusual aspect of this fight has led to speculation about its legitimacy, including claims that he may be restricted from knocking Paul out.

“There's nothing in the agreement, Joshua can confirm it. We're going to war,” Paul said.

The former champion, wearing a valuable chain, jokingly added, “The only thing in the contract that got my attention was the payment.”

He has claimed on social media that the fight earnings will be extremely large.

Biggest Upset in Boxing History?

Paul first gained fame as an online prankster, gathering a huge online audience.

He has not faced anyone of the former champion's pedigree but maintained that his rival would take him seriously.

“It's smart on his part,” he commented. “This could possibly be, and will be, the biggest defeat of his life.”

A victory for the underdog would be arguably the most shocking upset in the sport's annals.

It would certainly leave an indelible mark on Joshua's record, but the athlete said it would not mean retirement.

“I'd return again, shake it off,” he said. “I'll be main eventing again in a year or two. That's life. I'm a player in the game.”
