Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the club leadership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
